All of us, during our lives, go through some difficult moments - those that mark us for the rest of our lives, but also those that are a little easier to overcome. And we are often sad or dissatisfied with something that burdens us, but we deal with it anyway. We emerge stronger from every pain.
But being in a state of depression is something completely different and incomprehensible to many of us. And about being in that state of mind and how to get out of that world, Matt Haig, whom you already had the opportunity to meet on my blog, shows us in detail.
If you are interested in reviews of his other works, feel free to click on the links below:
Matt Haig is known for drawing the greatest inspiration from this life experience. With his work, he tries to show all of us what it feels like to be depressed and which steps are necessary to change that state. Because it's possible... it's not easy, but it's possible.
As for my overall impression of the book called "How to Stay Alive", I can tell you that, despite the subject of the book, I really enjoyed reading it.
Haig used such a gentle and pleasant tone of writing, he used living examples, he placed us in various locations, but he also gave us the opportunity to experience how does the depression taste and smell like.
We are all guided by the fact that it is difficult for us at times, without having experienced the true depth of depression.
Of course, no one wants such a thing, but we should occasionally "step on the ball" and realize that there are people who still have it harder and worse than ourselves. And it is an even bigger step to admit that fact.
Haig describes to us how difficult it was for him to be alone, what kind of struggles he had with himself when going to the store and things like that. So imagine that one moment you are leading a completely normal life, and the next you are struggling to breathe under the weight of dark depression. Because what struck him really manifested itself that way.
It was a tough road, but he came out of it stronger, despite the fact that he still has difficulty staying in a high state of mind. It is a state that never ends and never goes away.
Please, don't take the book as an epitome of depression, something that will be difficult for you to read or, worst possible, that the topic will discourage you right from the start. Think of it as a light around depression, because it is exactly the basis of the whole positivity around which the story is created.
His book was created to show us that not everything in life is so dark and that some struggles, which we wage within ourselves, do not have to seem like an anchor that drags us to the bottom and that that anchor will one day become light.
This book tells us that even in the darkest day we have that one little ray of sunshine, which can bring a smile to our face and make the day better. :)
Finally, I want you to read the book, I really do - for a few simple reasons. Matt Haig is an absolute revelation to me this year and a person I admire immensely. I draw inspiration for anything in life from his experience, because I truly felt his worst state, but at the same time I enjoyed his rise from that state. The book had such a positive effect on me and I will keep repeating that to you. It was so enjoyable that I read it in record time, most of it with a smile on my face.
And most importantly, this is a book that everyone should put on their reading list and read every time they feel down. This book is truly a life vest. The only question is: do you want to be saved? :)
Until the next post,
Your Goga loves you
